Dean Hornbacher - Midstates 427SC

I wanted to build a replica Cobra like a "stock car" for the street.  It took 2 plus years to build.  Started to build it in Oct. of 1999.  I like to show it. Will not race it (crazy without a "full roll cage"), just like cruising around in it.

I like to drive the Ford purest crazy because I have a Big block Chevy in it.  Isn't that what a Kit car is for, to build it the way you want it.

  • 4" round tube. Speedway engineering 9" Ford housing with Strange (aluminum) carrier with a Dan Press Gold track torque proportioning center 3.55 gears (Richmond).

  • Mustang II geometry on the front, tube A arms.

  • Coil over all the way around(Afco). The custom Afco spindles are set up for "wide 5s" with Willwood hubs.

  • Willwood superlite brakes all the way around,12" rotors.

  • Steering is a custom made Woodward rack & pinion (power assist).

  • Transmission is a Jerico Winston (Nextel) cup top loader with center force clutch and Tilton hydrolic release.

  • Original came out of a 1969 L88 Corvette (wrecked). I acquired the engine in 1974 and held on to it all these years.  The only parts left from the original engine is the block, crank, rods and cam.

  • It now has J&E pistons (9.5/1 comp)

  • GM signature oval port heads with Manley stainless necked down valves. Comp cams valve spring and Titanium retainers and stud girdle. Crower stainless Enduro rockers.

  • Wiend Stealth manifold.

  • Holley 850 double pumper.

  • MSD distributor and electronics.

  • Heads were ported by Kevin Rennaker at Diversified mechanical services.

  • Engine pulled 525 HP on the dyno.
